Upcoming Exhibition:
Mark Vaarwerk
6th - 29th November
Metalab is proud to showcase new works by contemporary jeweller Mark Vaarwerk. In this first solo exhibition, Mark continues to explore his fascination with reused materials.
Likened to a modern day alchemist, he displays a masterful and innovative approach incorporating processes using traditional silversmithing and hand-spun fibre techniques.
Mark has established an iconic and ever expanding collection of work,, made even more covetable due to the scarcity and diminishing availability of his chosen materials in an increasingly green conscious world.
Transforming base materials such as shopping bags, orange juice bottles, milk containers and even hand cream tubes,
these discarded elements of everyday consumerism become creative and colourful adornment for the body, juxtaposed with precious metals of silver and gold.
Hand-spun cord is made from shopping bags and married with silver beads, these elements then composed into elegant neckpieces.
Specially fused layers of plastic packaging are skillfully manipulated and re-circulated as brooches and rings.
A selection of images are available for your viewing pleasure in our Exhibitions section.
